Last Tuesday I set my alarm for 4:30am. Anyone who knows me well, knows what a big deal this is for me. I’ve never been a morning person, and have forever struggled with getting up early. It’s been a new year’s resolution of mine for more years than I can remember, and the one I’ve never stuck to! But this is the first time in my entire life I have actually enjoyed waking up so early.
It was a surprisingly good feeling heading out the door in the pitch black and walking through the City with only a handful of other people around. There is something empowering about being one of the first awake and enjoying the day before the majority of people have even woken up! It has completely refuelled my desire to wake up early each morning.
We arrived at the walkie talkie building for 6am, and made our way up to the sky garden. The class started as the sun began to rise in front of us, and by the time it was finished, the entire rooftop was full of light.
I’m new to Yoga, so I can’t give a detailed review on the class because I have nothing to compare it with, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I left the class feeling relaxed, with a clear and positive mindset, as well as feeling like I had actually worked out too (my abs were killing me the next day!). As a very spiritual person, I can’t believe I have never tried yoga before. I don’t know whether every class is the same, but our instructor made sure we took time to reflect, have gratitude and appreciation. You can really feel the positive energy in the room by the end of the class. What an amazing way to start the day!
After the class we made our way to the back of the rooftop where we enjoyed a buffet breakfast of fresh fruit, pastries, granola, yogurt and lots more. And most importantly, coffee! Which was very much needed after the early start.
If you fancy giving Sunrise Yoga a try, you can find out all about it and how to book tickets over on their website here. See you at the top!
