Heading into work each morning, you never know where the day is going to take you. Even though your calendar may say one thing, there can easily be a slight change of plan that has a knock on effect and alter the rest of your day. These situations are far easier for men to deal with, especially those who wear a suit each morning that can effortlessly take them from day to evening without a second thought. But, us ladies have a more stressful job of making sure what we wear will see us through all possible occasions and so finding that perfect day to night dress is a necessity.

A certain dress can be fine for sitting in the office during the day, but wouldn’t be smart enough for a last minute meeting or dinner in the evening, and this is a problem I have faced many times in the past, particularly when I first started working in the City and was finding my feet. I remember one Summer morning sitting down at my desk at 9am, logging in and finding an email from my boss asking me to join her in a meeting that started at 9:30 with some clients who had flown in from the US. I immediately knew I wasn’t dressed appropriately, as I was wearing quite a casual dress and sandals because I thought I had a quiet day sitting at my desk from 9 to 5. With 15 minutes to spare, my colleagues rallied around and helped dress me, which is quite embarrassing looking back! One lady gave me her blazer and thankfully I had a pair of smart heels in my locker.

Not only did that situation stress me out before I had even left the office, it had a negative impact on my mood for the rest of the day and probably my concentration during the meeting too. I learnt my lesson after that morning, and from then on have always made sure I’m ready for anything the day may throw at me, even if that means having spare items of clothing and shoes in the office for emergencies!

I’ve mentioned on my blog time and time again about how I love easy, versatile and effortless outfits for the office that require very minimal thinking in the morning. I don’t know about you, but my mornings fly by so I simply don’t have time to stand in front of my wardrobe with the doors wide open, looking lost and searching for inspiration (even though I’ve been there many times before!). There is nothing worse than running late and grabbing item after item from your wardrobe to try on, only for it to end up in a pile of clothes in the corner that’s slowly getting bigger and bigger! Not only does it leave your bedroom in a total mess, as I said earlier it will get your day off to a stressful start, which nobody needs!

This was why I was absolutely thrilled  to take part in the House of Fraser dresses campaign to pick and style a dress that I can wear to work during the day and into the evening too, as it’s something you now know I’ve struggled with in the past, and I’ve been excited to share my tips and tricks with you! I chose the beautiful Tassa dress from LK Bennett in this gorgeous coral colour. This style of dress fits exactly what I look for when I want an outfit to take me from the boardroom to the bar – effortless, stylish and empowering. From the moment I stepped into this dress I felt extremely confident, which is something I strongly believe every woman should feel walking out of the door each morning.

This House of Fraser pencil dress is classic, elegant and smart  – as it’s a style that will never go out of fashion, this dress should be a staple item in every woman’s working wardrobe. You’ll be able to pull it from your personal collection year after year and get the same reaction from people when you walk into the room as you did the very first time you wore it – this woman means business! It doesn’t need fancy accessories or statement shoes, as the dress does all the talking.

This dress can effortless go from a mid-morning coffee break, to a slice of pizza at lunch, back to the office for a whizz through some emails and then onto a night in the City with colleagues in the evening. No outfit changes necessary!
