Hey! So…this is the first time I’ve publicly shared my ‘before and after’ photos since I started what I like to call my ‘skincare journey’ last year. My skin has been clear for almost a year now, and I wanted to share what helped me get to this point with the hope it’ll help others who are going through the same thing.
January 2019 was when my skin was at its worst. Throughout my entire twenties and for as long as I can remember, my skin has always been particularly bad in the Winter in terms of dryness, but it had never been this bad before. Not only was my skin dry and flaky, but I had huge patches of angry, sore acne too. It felt like every morning I would wake up with another sore area, and no matter what I did it wasn’t getting any better.
I was so insecure about my face and would absolutely NEVER step out of the house without at least foundation on. To be honest, I’ve always loved wearing a full face of makeup but at this point, I was even wearing it to run to the shops quickly because the thought of someone seeing me bare-faced made me feel sick!
I remember having a photoshoot in Jan 2019 and apologising to my photographer because my skin was literally flaking off. I don’t know why I felt the need to apologise but I think it was because I felt so embarrassed as I knew it was noticeable so I wanted to address it! I edit my own photos and when I received them back I remember zooming into my face and trying my best to smooth it out with the skin smooth tool in Lightroom. I can honestly say that since I started my skincare journey, I have not touched my face with any editing/smoothing tools and it’s so refreshing!
I bought so many different skincare products online, from cleansers to oils and everything in between. I spent a fortune! I remember one girl online (with flawless skin) swearing by facial oils. Stupidly, I immediately bought all the expensive oils she was recommending only for them to make my skin x10 worse!
Fast forward to around August 2019 and I visited Dr Allan at Woodford Medical for my very first Botox appointment. She very kindly agreed for me to film a Q&A for my YouTube about my interest in getting botox (you can watch that here). After the filming was finished and I was about to leave, she asked me about my skin. It was particularly bumpy and dry that day and I’d piled on the thickest layer of foundation over the top. We ended up having such a lovely, open conversation about my skin and she asked if I wanted to have a chat with their senior skin specialist who had some free time. I’m so glad I agreed because the lovely Debbie took my make-up off and gave me a thorough skin analysis using a machine.
After a long chat, Debbie gave me a bunch of samples of Epionce Skincare to take home and try. She also booked me in for a skin peel. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to get home and try my new skincare! The first time in my life I’d had a solid skincare routine with instructions from Debbie on how and when to use each product. So exciting!
I’m being deadly honest with you now (as I always am) – I noticed a difference within the first week of using the Epionce products. My skin was less angry looking and finally began to calm down. I carried on strictly with my new products, nothing else, and started having monthly skin peels with Debbie. We switched around a few of the products, for example, switching to a more intensive cream for the Winter months. And once my acne had almost all cleared up Debbie swapped my cleansers around too. I also had two photorejuvenation treatments which is the most effective treatment for facial redness, flushing, broken veins, Rosacea, pigmentation and sun damage. By November, my acne was almost all gone. See the photo below – the top photo was in October 2019 and the photo below was November 2019.
Fast forward to now, November 2020, and my skin is still clear and acne-free. I obviously still get the odd spot pop up, mainly just before my period, but they’re gone within a couple of days. The thing I’ve noticed most about my skin is the texture. It’s so unbelievably smooth, which makes the biggest difference when I put my makeup on. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s my confidence which has improved the most! I can enjoy make-up free days and not worry if people are looking at my skin, and when I’m out and about I don’t feel like I’m constantly hiding behind my hair.
I’m still having monthly peels at Woodford Medical which I swear by! And still using my Epionce products morning and night. No other skincare products.
Woodford Medical have clinics in Essex, London, Cambridge, Leamington Spa and Belfast, so if you’re interested just book a consultation and they’ll talk you through everything! They’ve also kindly agreed to give a discount for all aesthetic treatments if you quote Dorothy. Please always know my messages are open if you want to ask any questions about my skincare journey or about my experience at Woodford Medical!
