Alec’s Restaurant

My friends and I have a lot in common, but I think the number one thing has got to be our love of food! We love trying out new restaurants, any excuse to get together and have a good gossip over some food and wine!

Alec’s Restaurant is quietly tucked away in Navestock Side which is just outside of Brentwood. It’s been open for a good few years now, and has quickly become very popular in Essex so a date here has been long overdue.

The elegant spiral staircases, spacious dining tables and the huge artwork on the wall add to the modern and chic atmosphere.

The doors at the back of the restaurant were left open throughout the warm summer evening allowing diners to drift in and out of the terrace which boasted beautiful views of the countryside. When the sun finally set, gas heaters were turned on which lit up the terrace.

As Alec’s are renowned for their fish and seafood dishes, I felt it rude not to find out why, so to start I had the jumbo king prawn and king scallop soaked in delicious hakka sauce (which is like a sweet Chinese style sauce). They were hands down the best scallops and prawns I have ever tasted.

The girls had the crispy aromatic duck salad with cucumber and spring onion, drizzled in plum sauce which looked (and after a lot of mmmmmm’s, apparently tasted) amazing!

For main I had a whole hot buttered lobster, which was cooked to perfection.

Cornish cod fillet fried in beer batter with tartare sauce.

How delicious does this roast rump of lamb look? It arrived presented on minted crushed potato and pea puree.

Time for the fun stuff, dessert.

What I love about Alec’s dessert menu is that the choices are all British classics, so I challenge you to find something you haven’t loved since you were little! One of my absolute favourite desserts is knickerbocker glory, which came piled high with a cherry on the top.

Before…

After…

Well and truly demolished, and so worth every calorie!

You can visit their website here, but they don’t take reservations via their website so you’ll have to call to book.

Perfect for a girlie catch up, a group celebration, a romantic date or simply ‘just because’. You have to book a good few weeks (and sometimes months) in advance, but the wait is definitely worth it.
