BRGR.CO and The Covent Garden Cocktail Club

I know this is a big statement, but I think I may have discovered my new favourite burger joint in London! Situated bang in the middle of Soho, lies a restaurant called BRGR.CO and their burgers are to die for.

They call themselves BRGRologist’s! “One who, with patience and dedication, has learned all there is to know about BRGRs, and is ready to share their knowledge with a fortunate few.” And that fortunate few were my friends and I when we reserved a table last week. Lucky us!!

Have you ever heard of a burger version of Afternoon Tea? Well, neither had I until I discovered BRGR. We simply had to order it after noticing it on the menu, and being the total foodies we are, we were so happy we did!

A glass of prosecco and homemade ice teas were brought over to enjoy whilst we waited for the most important part, the food, which followed shortly after.

The afternoon tea consisted of 3 sliders and a pot of chips. Each slider was filled with a different ingredient; one with lobster, the other with chicken and the last was stuffed with beef and cheese. We all left the beef slider until the end and all agreed we could have easily eaten that one over and over and over again!

We also received a separate tray of mini desserts. Ohhhh the desserts! Strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake, warm chocolate brownie, mini warm doughnuts with salted caramel and a vanilla milkshake.

We all received a tray each too, so there was none of the awkwardness you usually get with traditional afternoon teas over who gets the last sandwich or cake!

After all that food, we were now ready for cocktails! We left the restaurant and walked around the corner to The Bling Pig at Social Eating House. It’s a speakeasy hidden behind a secret door. An “opticians” sign hangs above the door, making it impossible to know that a stylish 1920’s bar is inside. It has the perfect balance of sophistication and playfulness.

I blogged about The Blind Pig when I first discovered it last year, and it’s now one of my favourite bars in the whole of London, mainly down to their incredible cocktail menu! I’m a complete sucker for a good quality cocktail, and the mixologists certainly know what they’re doing.

The bar’s quirkiness is playfully reflected in the presentation of the drinks themselves. Order a Silver Screen, and your cocktail will arrive with a mini basket of popcorn clipped to the side of your glass. Order a McBandaq  (my favourite) and your banana milkshake will be served up in a takeaway cup. Ingredients include coco pops milk (I still need to try this one) and skittles vodka!

After a couple rounds of drinks at The Blind Pig, we bar hopped down the road to Covent Garden, where we found The Covent Garden Cocktail Club.

We walked down the stairs and joked amongst ourselves that the bar looked too hidden away to be busy. Well, we were definitely wrong! As soon as we walked through the door, the buzzing atmosphere hit us as we entered the dimly lit bar.

Thankfully my extremely organised friend Danielle pre-booked us a reservation in advance and we were led by the hostess to what she called “the best seats in the house”, to the end of the bar where we sat on high bar stools with a view along the bar. The bar staff were so much fun and seemed to be having a little party of themselves behind the bar, taking shots now and again with the customers!

We’d obviously arrived at the perfect time…happy hour! We took full advance of this and ordered countless of their crazy, and very strong cocktails, including a round of flaming cocktails.

We also ordered an “Egg n Bacon” which arrived with real bacon draped across the glass with a haribo fried egg on top!

I’m so glad we found this little hidden gem, and I’ll definitely be returning with the girls! I wouldn’t recommend for a date, as the music and atmosphere is so loud you can barely hear the person next to you, but it’s the perfect spot for pre-drinks before an evening of dancing.

Unfortunately for us lightweights, happy hour got the best of us and after countless cocktails and shots, the only two things on our mind were food and our beds!! Thankfully, I knew a good Mexican in Covent Garden called Cafe Pacifico that does the best Enchiladas everrrr and they did just the trick!

It doesn’t matter how long you spend in London or how well you think you know the city, there are always hidden gems to be discovered and new joints popping up all the time. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of exploring this fabulous city!
