One of the best things about working in the City is that I’m surrounded by bars and restaurants. This makes it an impossible task to simply leave the office and head home at the end of the day!
The moment someone mutters the words “let’s go for a quick drink…”, that’s it. It doesn’t take much to twist my arm! It’s always followed by “just the one”, which are the famous last words!
There are constantly new bars popping up all over the City, and this obviously means I must test them out. That’s my excuse anyway!
The latest bar and restaurant to open is called Forge. The venue was once Abacus bar, but after a complete re-vamp it has now re-opened as Forge. I was invited by their lovely PR team to pop in after work for some dinner and drinks. Unfortunately my friend and I couldn’t stay for dinner, so propped ourselves at the bar to test out the cocktail menu instead.
We were asked by the friendly barman what our preferred flavours and ingredients were, so we asked for something fruity! He whipped up a delicious cocktail bursting with coconut and pineapple flavours, presented in a tall glass with one giant ice cube which he chipped himself from a block of ice. Delicious!
It was lovely and refreshing, just what we needed on what was one of the hottest days of the year.
The bar is big, bright and spacious which is always a good thing for a busy Thursday and Friday night in the City. I’m looking forward to coming back with all the girls soon for more cocktails and a boogie!
On our way home, we passed Steam & Rye and were tempted inside…just for one. Surprisingly, this time we did only have one, which is a first for us! A Big Pinga Colada and a Dingle-Bong-Wingle from their summer cocktail menu. Not only did they taste amaaaaazing, they were playfully presented in an actual coconut (with a heap of whipped cream) and a Hawaiian Tiki mask glass!
We left just before the DJ started, when temptation to stay for the evening would have really started setting in!
I must admit, I have a slight obsession with a good cocktail and at Steam & Rye I’m always guaranteed something fun and yummy at the same time. I even noticed one girl with a Fruit Pastille’s lolly in her cocktail, I mean, what more could you want?!
