Early birthday celebrations @ Roka and The May Fair Hotel Bar

It wasn’t my birthday until Friday 4th July, but due to our diaries being ridiculously busy lately, the girls and I got together a week early to celebrate.

All I wanted was good food, yummy cocktails and some music, so I decided to reserve a table for dinner at the new Roka in Mayfair, followed by a table for drinks at The May Fair Hotel Bar which is conveniently located just around the corner from the restaurant.

I’m a massive fan of Japanese Cuisine, and had heard nothing but good things about Roka so I couldn’t wait to visit. Rainer Becker, the chef behind Zuma and Oblix at The Shard, opened up the latest Roka on North Audley Street, in the heart of the exclusive London neighbourhood, in February this year. They already have locations in Canary Wharf (unlimited brunch offer on weekends) and Charlotte Street.

As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed with huge smiles by the lovely staff and taken straight to our table. They already knew it was my birthday due to a tweet I had sent before arriving, and very kindly presented us with a ‘Lipstick Rose’ cocktail each on the house to enjoy whilst we studied the menu. It was delicious!

The restaurant has a chilled out yet elegant vibe, with huge floor to ceiling windows letting in all the light of the beautiful summer evening. The kitchen is situated in the middle, with high stools allowing some diners to watch their food being cooked. I thought this would be a brilliant date venue!

We couldn’t help but get a little bit carried away when ordering the food as we wanted everything on the menu!

Despite ordering half of the menu, they brought our food out in stages so we wasn’t too bombarded with all the dishes.

We started with salmon sashimi, salted edamame and deep fried mixed vegetables (my favourite being the deep fried sweet potato. Mmmmm)…

Followed by black cod dumplings. These were so delicious…

These little rock shrimp tempura balls were my favourite! I could have eaten hundreds of them. They were served with chilli mayonnaise…

Seared beef with a truffle dressing…

Giant (and it was giant!) tiger prawn…

Scallop skewers, with wasabi and teriyaki chicken skewers…

Our meal ended with the most spectacular dish of the evening. Two racks of possibly the yummiest ribs I’ve ever eaten!

All washed down with lots of white wine.

I don’t know about you, but my mouth is now watering looking at these photos!! This is why I love japanese restaurants  like Roka, because I love having lots of different pieces to pick from as opposed to ordering just one meal.

I simply couldn’t fault the food or the service. Everything was perfect.

We unfortunately had to skip dessert in order to make our reservation for the last part of our night, so we quickly finished the last of our wine and settled the bill. Upon leaving the restaurant, the staff all wished me a happy birthday. They couldn’t have been more friendly!

We jumped into a cab and wizzed 5 minutes round the corner to The May Fair Hotel Bar

The bar was buzzing but thankfully I’d reserved us a table to beat the crowd. A DJ came on at 9pm and we stayed in the bar drinking champagne and taking selfies until it closed!

I wore my Kate Moss for Topshop playsuit which I had been saving for my birthday night out, with my lucky birthday Louboutins! I don’t usually wear playsuits, but I have a new found love for them. I have a feeling I’ll be wearing them a lot more this summer.

Thank you Roka, for making my birthday very special! See you again soon where I’ll be trying out the rest of the menu!
