Hakkasan Mayfair

I love birthdays! It’s the perfect excuse to get all your favourite people together for a night out somewhere special.

Last week 14 of us got all dolled up to celebrate my fabulous friend Ellise’s birthday in style. As there were so many of us, we reserved the private dining room at the Michelin Star restaurant Hakkasan in Mayfair for our own mini party!

!function(d,s,id){var e, p = /^http:/.test(d.location) ? ‘http’ : ‘https’;if(!d.getElementById(id)) {e = d.createElement(s);e.id = id;e.src = p + ‘://’ + ‘d27mzdfpkg2pgg.cloudfront.net’ + ‘/js/shopthepost.js’;d.body.appendChild(e);}if(typeof window.__stp === ‘object’) if(d.readyState === ‘complete’) {window.__stp.init();}}(document, ‘script’, ‘shopthepost-script’);

We ordered our food from the set menu before we arrived, so that everything was pre-ordered and ready. This saved us from the impossible task of deciding which dishes to go for on the night, and made more time for sitting back and enjoying some bubbles…

Our first course arrived and we were overloaded with dim sum platters consisting of scallop, pork, shrimp, chinese chive and duck dumplings and plates of jasmine tea smoked pork ribs. The meat practically fell off of the pork ribs and they were devoured in minutes.

After the amount of dim sum I’d eaten in Paris over the last few weeks I can honestly say none of them compared to those served at Hakkasan, they were incredible

^^ The birthday girl and I taking a quick selfie in between courses! ^^

After the first course was cleared, we were given a quick breather before our table was crowded again with an abundance of delicious food. We dined on crispy fresh water prawn with chilli and cashew nut,  rib-eye steak and asparagus, duck parcels and stir-fry silver cod in sweet and sour sauce with pomegranate. All served with Chinese vegetables and jasmine rice.

We also ordered a dish outside of the set menu that we’d heard we had to try out, and we were glad we did because it was delicious. The steamed New Zealand mini lobster wrapped in glass noodles (pictured on the long plate below) was created exclusively for Hakkasan Mayfair. If you go to Hakkasan Mayfair, promise me you will order this? You won’t regret it!

Our break between second course and dessert called for shots, naturally. A tequila for moi, and sambuka (yukkkkk) for everyone else.

Just when I felt as though I couldn’t possibly eat another single thing, they delivered the final course, dessert, and isn’t it funny how you can always find room for something sweet?

Plates of rich dark chocolate marquise and Caramelised apple tatin with blackberries, almonds and vanilla were presented along the middle of the table, allowing us to share them both between ourselves. Rich chocolate desserts are my favourite, so I may have finished an entire one of those to myself…

At the end of the night, Ellise had her very own chocolate dessert brought out with a candle and we all sang her Happy Birthday. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you’re never too old for some cake and to be sung Happy Birthday!

It was the perfect end to our celebrations, and we all went home feeling full from our meal and dizzy from the bubbles and tequila. My favourite type of evening!

Happy Birthday girlie, I hope you had a fabulous evening! Love you!
