I like to think of myself as a positive person who always sees the glass as half full, but it’s very rare that I jump out of bed instantly feeling like I want to seize the day. The truth is, I go through a series of events each morning to get me into the right mindset for the day ahead.
I speak for myself here, but I’m sure I’m not the only person who needs a bit of help when it comes to positive thinking. I’ve come to realise that even the most positive people need a bit of a mental boost now and again.
There are a number of motivational people I follow on social media, such as Gary V (my absolute favourite and has honestly changed my life) and Lewis Howes, who constantly provide tips and tricks about how they stay on the right track mentally. I started to write down some of these methods to refer back to now and again. Over time I’ve developed my own routine incorporating a number of things I’ve learnt from the “experts” as well as some of my own little habits, and I wanted to share some of these with you.

Firstly, I get up early. This is something I’ve spoken about before on my blog and I’m still loving my early mornings. Don’t get me wrong, when that alarm goes off I think nooooo. I feel so tired that the urge to press that snooze button is so strong, but I power through and as soon as I’m up I feel amazing for it.
On weekdays my alarm goes off at 6am which gives me enough time to slowly get myself ready without a manic rush before I leave the house. I’m usually up pretty early at the weekends too (around 7-8am), and it motivates me knowing I have a full morning ahead. As soon as I wake up, I jump in the shower and put on some of my favourite songs which instantly puts me in a good mood! I then make myself a coffee and something to eat…another two things that make me happy!!
No matter what I’m doing that day, I always do my hair and make up and get changed into a nice outfit, even if I’m working from home! I personally feel positive when I look presentable and feel good about myself. Plus, I like to be ready for anything!
Now for the thing that really helps get me into a positive mindset…my motivational playlists! I have a number of videos saved on my phone’s reading list and I pick one to listen to each morning. I love them. They’re so inspiring and really get you thinking.
Here are 5 of my favourites:
It’s so easy to get caught up in our day to day lives, rushing around from morning to evening and then going to sleep, getting up and doing it all again. There’s rarely time to sit back and think about how we can maximise our lives and our happiness. These videos really make me think about this and have given me the boost to make certain changes.
I challenge you to listen to one of those videos each morning, and see if it makes a difference to your day. Let me know in the comments!
