#OutOfOffice | Avenue Lodge – Val d’Isere

Val D’Isere has so many amazing restaurants dotted around, a week isn’t long enough to fully appreciate them all! Especially when some evenings, all you want to do is have a hot bath and go to bed. I know I sound a million years old but it’s true!

You may remember in one of my previous posts I mentioned L and I popping into the The Avenue Lodge hotel bar for a glass of wine one afternoon. Well, one evening we decided to venture out into the snow and have dinner there after being told they serve a good steak. We both love steak so we couldn’t wait to try it out.

We walked into the warmth of the cosy and stylish restaurant and were shown to our table and informed what the specials were, which were pretty much all of our favourites things. Soup, steak and crumble for dessert. Yum!

But first things first, wine! A yummy bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape swiftly made its way onto our table whilst we studied the menu.

We both wanted the soup, but also couldn’t stop thinking about the Pate, so naturally we opted for both and shared! The soup of the day was pea and was absolutely delicious. Perfectly creamy and warmed us both up immediately. Just what we needed! The pate was delicious too, and we wolfed them both down within minutes. Piggies.

For main, L ordered the sirloin steak from the specials board and I ordered the fillet steak. I love my steak rare, and I’d been warned that rare really does mean rare in France, which was perfectly fine by me. The rarer the better. Which is why I was a tad disappointed when it arrived cooked Medium. Don’t get me wrong, it was perfectly cooked but it was definitely not rare. I know I should have sent it back but I couldn’t bring myself to as I hate complaining, so enjoyed it regardless.

Our steaks also came with the cutest little pot of roast vegetables on the side.

For dessert we both ordered the pear crumble from the specials board. They arrived in cute little pots topped with lemon sorbet. It was absolutely delicious, however I expected it to be hot but it was cold which took a while to get used to. I would have preferred it piping hot with hot thick custard poured over the top….mmmmm! It was also extremely sugary, so thankfully I have a major sweet tooth to enjoy it!

We paid our bill as we finished the last few drops of our wine, before heading back out into the freezing cold air.
