A couple of weeks ago, the lovely team at LIKEtoKNOW.it asked if I would be happy for them to interview me for the rewardStyle blog. Of course, I said yes! For those unfamilar with LIKEtoKNOW.it, it’s an app where I share all my outfit details. You can download it by searching LIKEtoKNOW.it in the app store (or click here if you’re reading this on your phone)
My interview went live on the rewardStyle blog last week, but as it can only be viewed by influencers who are logged into their account, I wanted to share with you the Q&A here on SheGoesWear.com too. I was asked about my transition from Insurance Underwriting to full time blogging, finding my blogging niche, and tons more. I’m hoping it will help inspire other influencers, or those looking to switch careers. Hope you enjoy!

“Dorothy launched her workwear blog She Goes Wear in 2013, whilst working in the heart of London’s insurance sector. We got in touch to talk all things workwear, going full time, and caring less about what people think…”
How has your content evolved over the last five years?
At first, I blogged about absolutely everything and anything, but later I decided to focus on workwear. I realised I’d discovered a niche that I felt really passionate about.
Looking back at my past blog and Instagram posts, I can’t believe how much my content has evolved over the last few months, let alone years! My first few years of blogging were quite experimental for me in terms of figuring out what works and what doesn’t. I like to think I now know exactly what my audience wants to see so I constantly have them in mind.
You went full time in July of 2018 (congrats!). How has this changed your life?
Thank you so much! 2018 was a life changing year for me, and definitely one I’ll never forget! Even though I’d been working towards the goal of going full time, when I finally decided to hand my notice in I was absolutely terrified.
I’d been working at the same company for over 8 years and I was about to leave my secure job to work for myself, in a relatively new industry that I still think a lot of people don’t quite understand.
It took a good few weeks to settle into my new routine at home, but I’m just so happy to have more time. No more rushing out on my lunch breaks to shoot outfits or hiring meeting rooms to catch up on emails and social media.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your She Goes Wear journey?
The main lesson I’ve learned is to stop worrying about what people think. It held me back so much at the beginning, I didn’t tell anyone about my blog for months due to the fear that people would make fun of it. They did, but I couldn’t care less now!
I’ve noticed such a huge difference in my confidence since I started my blog in 2013, and it’s all because I learned to let go of the fear. I remember shooting in the street a few years ago and panicking someone would see me. Now, I stand proud and focus on what I’m doing, rather than what people around me are thinking.
How has finding your niche in workwear helped you?
Finding my niche in workwear has definitely helped build my business. Although influencer marketing is on the rise, the industry is also becoming more and more saturated, so finding my niche has really helped me stand out from the crowd.
Workwear rules are constantly evolving, but I’ve been fortunate enough to build an engaged audience of business women who always want to look smart, stylish, and confident at work!
What tips would you give to other content creators who’d like to find their own niche?
The most important thing to do is to find something you genuinely enjoy talking about, and the rest will follow! Just remember, it’s not all about how many followers you have. A loyal, engaged audience is what you should aim for instead.
How has LIKEtoKNOW.it helped you to grow your following?
