5 Workwear Staples Your Wardrobe Needs This Summer

The Trench Coat

It’s common knowledge to those of us living in the UK that the weather is unpredictable here. Anything goes! It could be 25 degrees sunshine in the morning followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon, and people won’t even act shocked because it’s the norm.

This makes dressing for the office commute extremely difficult. We face the fine line between not wanting to get soaking wet but also trying to avoid sweating buckets as we make our way into work. This is where the good old classic Trench Coat comes in. It’s been a wardrobe staple for decades and will never, ever go out of style.

If you haven’t got a trench coat hanging up in your wardrobe, firstly, who are you and secondly how have you survived without one? Seriously, I want to know your secret. I’ve had a particular nude trench coat for about 5 years and it’s saved me many, many  times before! It’s one of those pieces you can grab when you’re late running out the door and don’t have time to see if it’ll go with your outfit, because you know it always will!

The White Pencil Skirt

As you know, a pencil skirt is a staple piece. The majority of people, me included, will always opt for the black or navy version to be safe. This Summer, however, white is the new black!

This white lace pencil skirt is one of the most luxurious pieces I’ve worn in a long time. The material is gorgeous and it fits like a dream. It’s from a new workwear brand I had the pleasure of working with recently called Estelle London. I love supporting up and coming brands that share the same vision as me – to inspire hard-working, confident women.

Not only can this skirt be worn with the matching top, but it can be mix and matched with lots of different tops and blouses to create several different looks for the office.

The Heeled Sandals That’ll Go With Everything

Wearing sandals to the office is completely acceptable, especially in the Summer when the last thing you want to do is wear closed toe pumps in 30-degree weather. The majority of offices are pretty laid back when it comes to wearing sandals, as long as you’re not flip-flopping around the office.

I personally think sandals with a closed back are ideal for the office because you’re not showing too much skin. I also find them more comfortable and secure to wear than sandals with a strappy back that often fall down throughout the day.

If you’re going to opt for any colour, go for nude! Trust me, you’ll wear them to death throughout the warmer months as they’ll go with everything. I also find wearing nude shoes gives an illusion of longer legs too which is always a bonus!

The Cropped Trousers

I’m going to be honest here and say that I only started wearing trousers a few years ago. I know, I know, it sounds crazy but I always just opted for a skirt or dress instead. But ever since I found my perfect pair, I can safely say I’m obsessed with them and I can’t believe I’ve been missing out all these years.

My favourite styles are high waisted and cropped because I find they flatter my figure the best, and I always wear them with a good pair of high heels. If I don’t have my high heels on, I don’t feel comfortable in them and it completely throws my confidence.

Cropped trousers are the perfect edition to a Summer workwear wardrobe, as they’re so easy to style. Just throw on a pretty blouse (see below), and some heels and you’re good to go.

The Pretty Blouse

Just like a trench coat, the blouse has been around for decades and will always be a workwear wardrobe staple. I also like to wear my blouses outside of the office too, tucked into jeans at the weekend.

Simply tuck a blouse into a pencil skirt or trousers, and you look instantly chic. For Summer, opt for pretty hues and patterns to brighten up an outfit and give it a stlyish twist.

This blush pink blouse I’m wearing here looks and feels so much more expensive than what it is, and the animal print is bang on trend. It can be worn simply with white, pink or black and it’ll transform an outfit.
