I asked you all on Instagram stories which brand you’d like to see featured in this series, and the majority of you answered Oasis! This didn’t come as a surprise to me, as they have a great reputation for good quality, affordable workwear, so I immediately knew who October’s brand would be!
Monday’s outfit is fitting to the weather we’re experiencing right now. You never know what it’s going to be like from one day to the next! I’ve therefore styled this gorgeous real leather pencil skirt with a knitted jumper and some ankle boots. The knit looks extra chunky, but it’s surprisingly not too heavy for this weather. Once the winter weather sets in I’ll definitely pop a t-shirt underneath for added warmth but for now, worn on it’s own is just right.
How To Wear Leather In The Office
For years, there has been a misconception that leather is unsuitable to wear to work. It was perceived as not being smart enough, and also a bit unclassy. I’ll always remember when I started my job in the City 8 years ago, a man made a horrible comment to a lady in my office who was wearing a leather skirt. I can’t remember what he said exactly but he basically made her worry about what she was wearing and she asked us ladies for our opinion. It was the classic example of a mean “old school” man stuck in his ways and annoyed that women are moving on and looking ridiculously chic whilst doing it. I remember saying to her at the time how classy and smart she looked and to ignore him. I completely understand if she’d worn a skin tight leather mini dress to the office, but her pencil skirt was to the knee, high waisted and well fitted. She looked amazing!
Thankfully the misconceptions have faded over the years and leather is now one of the chicest pieces you can own in your workwear wardrobe.
As I say with any workwear outfit, not just wearing leather…if you look smart, and you feel comfortable, then wear it! And this Oasis leather skirt ticks all the right boxes. It’s perfectly cut, sits on your waist and cuts off just below the knee.
My favourite way to style leather pencil skirts are with a knitted jumper, like I have in this post, or with a silky blouse tucked in.
Monday’s are for strutting into the office feeling confident and powerful, which is exactly how this skirt makes me feel! Worn with a pair of ankle boots or court shoes, and a big woollen coat for those chilly mornings, and you’re ready to kick start the week ahead!
