My Favourite Spring Pleated Midi Skirts For Work And How To Wear Them

The pleated midi skirt has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember! They’ve been a part of my workwear wardrobe ever since I started working in the City 10 years ago.

They’re such a timeless style that has been around for years and made particularly famous in the ’50s where women oozed feminity and retro glamour. Fast forward to 2019, and the pleated midi is still going strong. It’s just the way we wear them that has evolved over the years. As you may already know, I’m a lover of clothing that can be styled not only for the 9-5 but outside of work too. This classic style of skirt is a perfect example of just that and can be paired with lots and lots of different pieces in order to create multiple outfits throughout the year.

In this blog post, I wanted to share with you this gorgeous green white and black patterned midi skirt, which comes in 4 alternative patterns, as well as some more of my favourite options from the high street right now. I’m also going to list a few different ways this skirt can be styled, particularly for work!

With A Knit

Personally, I find the easiest way to style a pleated midi skirt is by tucking in a knitted jumper or top. This was my go-to look throughout Winter and I finished the look off with ankle boots. Now that Spring is finally here, I would opt for a lighter knit, such as this M&S number, and pair with my classic heeled court shoes instead of boots.

With A Trench Coat

Just like a pleated midi, a trench coat is another timeless piece of clothing. It’s one of those items that you never have to feel guilty about buying, as you know it’ll never go out of style. It’s often difficult to find what coat to wear with a midi skirt, but I always stick to the rule of making sure it finishes either at the same length of the skirt or longer. I’ve found trench coats to work really well, especially in a longer length. I’ve listed a few of my favourites below:

With A Blouse

For to create a classy, feminine look for work, simply tuck in a blouse. If your skirt is plain, pair with a patterned blouse and vice versa. If you have a bright coloured skirt, keep your blouse neutral.

With A Blazer

A blazer is a great alternative to wearing a coat, especially for Spring. I’d never really been a fan of the boyfriend style blazer, but, I tried one on with a midi skirt the other day and loved it! I pulled the sleeves up so they’re ruched up to my elbow and kept it simple with a plain tee underneath.
