Happy Tuesday! I hope all you fellow Londoners reading this managed to survive the train strikes yesterday. What a nightmare!
Today I’m going to be talking about those key essential pieces that form the basis of your workwear outfits. If you have at least one of these pieces hanging in your wardrobe, you’ll be able to mix and match with other items in your wardrobe and put together tons of different looks.
They’re all classic, timeless pieces that you can pair with current, on trend items to really show off your style in the office.
A pencil skirt is an absolute must! Firstly, you’ll need one in black which you can pair with absolutely everything. Then you can stock up on a few in different colours and patterns.
A good pair of trousers are similar to a pencil skirt, they go with everything. Find a pair to suit your body type. Personally, only high waisted flatter my figure and I do find it hard to find a pair that fit right. My go-to shop is Reiss for trousers, as they’re made of thicker, better quality fabric than a lot of other high street stores, so fit my body better as well as lasting for years and years.
Obviously, a pair of black heels are another essential. They can be worn with tights in the winter, too.
I’ve been wearing flats more and more around the office recently (I know, who am I?!). I like those in a more structured leather and a tiny heel, as I feel they look more professional than a flimsy pair that slip off your feet. Again, black can be worn with tights.
If you don’t have a crisp white shirt, or a silk blouse in your wardrobe, then where have you been?! I wear my silk blouse to death, both for work and during the weekend too. They will simply never go out of style.
Another timeless piece of clothing, the black blazer. And another that can be worn for both the office and past 5pm too. An essential for both work and play! It’s always best to invest when it comes to a good blazer, as it’s something you’ll be wearing for the rest of your life.
